8964 and Me

I was still in elementry school.
On that day, we did not have any classes, instead we gather in our school’s yard. We were there to support the students in Beijing by singing songs and chanting slogan.
I was still a kid, but we all knew what we were doing. We were a kid and we all witnesses the students were being shot by the Chinese army in TV.
The students did not have any weapons.
When we were taking the bus to some places with family, as soon as the bus stopped, there were young men handing us black strips and stickers to remind us what happened in Beijing. My mom put the black strip on my sleeves. I was a kid, but I knew the symbolism of it.
I am not a kid anymore, but 20 years after 8964, I still remember what happened in Beijing.
