Wearing Mask in Domestic Flight in the US

While I got nothing to do during a flight home from a business trip, let me blog a bit about my experience in flying with a mask on.

As swine flu is spreading around the world, I want to take pre-caution about flight risk. Before I left for the trip, my company prepared some mask for me to use for the trip.

When I arrived at the airport, I was not surprise to see there was no one wearing a mask. I did not wear one as well because I felt the air circulation was reasonably good. Once I broaded on the plane, I immediately put mask on. There was a kid sitting across the isle and found interesting about my mask. I was not surprised because there was no one wearing it except me. The kid lost interest staring at my after a minute or so, but the kid started to cry, appearantly becuase of hunger.

Then there was an ignorant man thought my mask was scaring the kid even the kid’s mother saying it was just because her kid was hungry. This man even called a flight attendant and asked if the airline could request me to remove the mask. The flight attendent politely respond to him and say no. I wonder if my mask was making him thought of some bad memory in the hospital and use the kid as a scapegoat to ease his comfort.

Now I am on the way flying home and I am still an attraction. I could feel people are looking at my mask everytime they passed by my seat. I am not going to take off my mask because in the past hour, I hear sneezing and coughing constantly from front and back rows.

Everyone got to protect themselves.
